Escambia Charter School evolved from an alternative education program developed by the Private Industry Council of Escambia County, Inc. (PIC) with the School District. The alternative program was begun in 1993 to serve at-risk students.
The passage of the Charter School Legislation in May of 1996 provided the impetus for the proposal of the charter agreement to the School District. The agreement was approved by the District on June 30, 1996.
Initially the facilities consisted of an administrative office and three campus locations. We have since moved to a single campus located at the old 90 & 9 Ranch. ECS serves high school students who are at risk of dropping out of school. ECS meets all the State of Florida's requirements for graduation. As of 2003 Escambia Charter is the first chartered high school in Escambia County to be SACS Accredited.
